Created between two worlds.
Profundo combines my Peruvian roots with a European perspective on form, function, and restraint.
I am Sergio, founder of Profundo.
What began as a personal connection to two cultures became a question:
How can extraordinary materials from Peru be given a new form today, without losing their origin?
THE BEGINNING
Fashion did not come first. The material came first.
My connection to Peru was personal for a long time before it became the foundation for Profundo.
I grew up mainly in Germany. Although my mother is from Peru and some of my family lives there, Peruvian culture was not a natural part of my everyday life for a long time.
Most of my family lives in Europe. I knew Peru through my family, through individual traditions, and through things that remained despite the distance. But I never felt I truly knew this side of my heritage.
Over time, that began to change.
I wanted to better understand where a part of my family comes from and how it is also part of my own story. For me, Profundo became a way to consciously approach this heritage, to embrace it, and to pass something of it on.
Alpaca sweaters had always played a role in my family. What was initially just familiar eventually began to interest me more closely.
I began to look more intensively into the fiber, its origin, and the differences in its quality.
In doing so, I discovered baby alpaca.
Its exceptionally fine feel, its lightness, and warmth changed my view of the material. To me, it represented a distinct alternative to cashmere while simultaneously being something directly connected to Peru.
From this discovery, the initial idea for Profundo was born.
Not as an attempt to tell the story of a culture I claim to know completely.
But as an opportunity to dive deeper into a part of my own heritage, to learn from the people and the knowledge behind it, and to let something of my own emerge from it.
Profundo is therefore not the result of a completed story.
It is a path back to its origin.
OUR CONVICTION
We start with the material.
A garment can only be as good as what it is made of.
That is why Profundo does not start with trends and then search for a suitable material.
We start with the fiber.
With its feel. Its natural color. Its drape. Its origin.
Only from this does the form emerge.
PERU
Not inspiration. Origin. For Profundo, Peru is neither a backdrop nor a seasonal reference. This is where my own roots lie. This is where our work with alpaca and baby alpaca begins. And this is home to a textile expertise that existed long before Profundo. Our task is not to quote this culture decoratively, but to understand its materials and knowledge and translate them into pieces that can be worn naturally today. This fits perfectly with the strategic idea Coded Peru instead of folklore.
Exceptionally soft. Lightweight and warm. Natural tones. From Peru.
We do not choose fibers based on a fancy material name. What matters is what they contribute to the individual piece.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT
A piece is not created in isolation.
OUR STANCE
Less is a choice.
We do not want to create as many pieces as possible.
We want to have better reasons for every single one.
That is why we work with small quantities, selected materials, and a collection that grows deliberately slowly.
A Profundo piece should not only impress when you first try it on.
But still feel inherently right years later.
Then four simple principles:
Material over marketing.
What we claim must be tangible in the product.
Origin over staging.
Peru is our source, not a decoration.
Less, but right.
We expand the collection intentionally.
Made for wearing.
For us, uniqueness is not defined by how rarely something is worn.
SERGIO · FOUNDER OF PROFUNDO
Profundo is still in its early stages.
"We don't have a hundred-year company history.
What we have is a clear origin and the ambition to earn every subsequent chapter.
Profundo begins with alpaca and baby alpaca. With every new piece, we want to gain a deeper understanding of what Peruvian materials, craftsmanship, and design can be today.
Not growing faster.
But becoming clearer with every step."
